As I announced, we are working with NASA and the International Space Station to gain a better understanding of the effects of radiation on our seeds and oils. Our plants are exposed to varying amounts of solar radiation depending upon their location and elevation around the world, so by exposing our seeds and oils to much more intense radiation in space (not filtered by our atmosphere), we can accelerate the radiation effects to help us understand the effects of radiation exposure variables here on earth.

We placed selected seeds and oils in small “micro-laboratories” and sent them to the International Space Station. After one month they will return to earth where we will compare them with identical samples that did not go to the space station. Our micro-laboratories are now safely aboard the International Space Station. They arrived last Thursday, July 25th, following a delayed launch due to weather conditions.

Here are the first photographs of our micro-labs floating aboard the space station. These photos were taken by Colonel Drew Morgan, an NASA astronaut aboard the International Space Station. Drew told us that he snapped these photos of our micro-labs floating in the weightless environment of the ISS as it passed over Madagascar at an altitude of about 250 miles at a speed of 17,130 miles per hour.
